The Rhetoric Reading Group

The Rhetoric Reading Group hosts discussions of rhetoric and composition related articles and books. Led by students in either the M.A. or Ph.D. program, the group extends an invitation to these discussions to all graduate students, faculty, and adjuncts in the English Department. A background in rhetoric and composition is not required for participation.

In the Spring of 2004, readings included selections from Beth Daniell'sA Communion of Friendship: Literacy, Spiritual Practice, and Women in Recovery and T.R. Johnson's A Rhetoric of Pleasure: Prose Style and Today's Composition Classroom. The group continued its discussion of these works with Daniell, who visited as a guest lecturer for the 2004 Rhetoric Symposium, and Johnson, who kindly accepted an invitation from the group to discuss his work with us.

The next meeting of the Rhetoric Reading Group will be held in November. Further details will be announced at a later date. We welcome suggestions for further readings/topics. Please e-mail questions or suggestions to Donna Baker, dmb2557@louisiana.edu.
