There are a vast number of informative web sites on the World Wide Web that offer assistance to writers at all stages of the writing process. Categories of sites include the following:
 
Online Journals and Texts
 
Edith Garland Dupre Library This site for the library of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette contains many relevant links to research. The library subscribes to several online databases and journals that can be used to gather information for papers. Not all articles are present online and therefore some must be read in the library.
 
A Writer's Reference This companion web site for the fifth edition of Diana Hacker's A Writer's Reference is an excellent resource for anyone with questions about writing.

Writing Assistance
 
Common Errors in English In understandable terms, this site explains the differences between words that are often confused for one another.
  • Grammar, Style, and Usage True to its name, this page offers dozens of links to provide assistance with many writing problems.
  • Guide for Writing Research Papers This web site takes the reader through all stages of writing a research paper in MLA format from preliminary research through citing references.
  • Self-Study ESL Quizzes Numerous quizzes, exercises, and puzzles to help students studying English as a second language.
  • Merriam-Webster Online One can easily check spelling or find synonyms with this online version of the popular Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus.
  • On-line Writing Resources Not only does this site cover grammar and proper citation rules, but it also includes dozens of handouts on the writing process. Topics range from "Revising Prose" to "Transitions."
  • A Research Guide for Students With catchy topics, this site is interesting and helpful. It provides guidelines on "How to Write an A+ Research Paper" and "How to Survive the Internet Unscathed."
  • Writing and Citing The Elmhurst College Writing Center created this page to provide information on writing papers and citing sources. The site also contains links to other sites.
 
Citing/Formatting Guidelines
 
  • MLA Style and APA Style. These sites from Purdue University's Online Writing Lab contain guidelines for these two popular styles of documentation.
  • MLA Online The Modern Language Association's site contains basic information on MLA documentation style and tips for using the style.
  • American Psychological Association. The American Psychological Association's site contains basic information on APA documentation style and tips for using the style.
  • A Guide for Writing Research Papers This guide arranged in question-and-answer format is full of answers to common APA-style documentation questions. \
  • Citation Style Guides This web page was created by Concordia University. It contains the guidelines for citing in MLA, APA, and Chicago formats among others. A grammar guide is also included.
  • Style Manual Guides This site, from the John F. Kennedy Memorial University Library, offers formatting guidelines on AAA, APA, ASA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian writing formats. It also contains assistance with the writing process.
  • Internet Citation Guide The University of Wisconsin-Madison created this guide to citing electronic sources in research papers and bibliographies. It contains hints on MLA and other styles including APA, Chicago, Turabian, APSA, and NLM.
  • The Nuts and Bolts of College Writing The Nuts and Bolts of College writing includes articles on several writing topics and formats for MLA, APA, Chicago, and CBE styles of writing.
  • Columbia Guide to Online Style This site offers advice on citing electronic sources.
  • Technical Writing This site contains information for citing references in technical writing. Formats include those used by scientists and engineers.
