| Students studying linguistics at UL-Lafayette can select from a broad range of courses, including semantics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, and first- and second-language acquisition. UL’s nationally recognized Computer Science program, the Departments of Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Communicative Disorders all offer courses that permit students to pursue a wide variety of interests and applications. The Lafayette area, with native speakers of Cajun French and varieties of Creole French, provides a rich source of data for students interested in dialectology, languages in contact, Creole studies, and other sociolinguistic phenomena. | |||||||||||||||||||
| M.A. students who select the Linguistics emphasis take a minimum of four courses in linguistics, one course in five of the six literary periods, and one additional course from a specified group (for non-thesis option). Ph.D. students prepare a course of study with their advisor, including 18 hours in linguistics. For more information about the program or application process, contact: Dr. Claiborne Rice
