Charles E. Richard directs the Cinematic Arts Workshop, a new interdisciplinary institution at UL designed to facilitate faculty and student collaboration across the curriculum in producing new works of research and creative expression in cinema. "Cinematic Arts" refers broadly to forms of creativity and scholarship that utilize moving images, such as drama, documentaries, animations, computer games, interactive media, experimental video, and so forth. Richard coordinates the University's cinema studies curriculum, which is currently configured as a minor and is anticipated to become a new interdisciplinary major. His work includes over a dozen nationally distributed documentary films, earning recognitions such as "Best Historical Documentary" at the New York Independent Film & Video Festival and the prestigious "DuPont Columbia Award," television's Pulitzer Prize. At UL Lafayette, he supervises several collaborative student media projects and works closely with the Center for Louisiana Studies, where he serves as a Fellow with the Center for Cultural and Eco-Tourism. |
