The 9th Annual Louisiana Conference on Literature, Language and Culture
will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Lafayette, the heart of French Louisiana.
The Louisiana Conference invites papers and creative work on the effects of transformative moments and experiences—textual, cultural and academic.

2010 Keynote Speakers:
Dale Bauer (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), is a specialist in critical pedagogy, gender studies, and American women writers, and is the author of Sex Expression and American Women Writers, 1860-1940 (U of North Carolina P, May 2009).
Gordon Hutner (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) is author of What America Read: Taste, Class, and the Novel, 1920-1960 (U of North Carolina P, May 2009), and Founding Editor of the journal American Literary History published by Oxford UP.
Special Events:
Friday Plenary Session: On Publishing
Gordon Hutner, the founding editor of American Literary History, and Jeanne Leiby, editor/director of The Southern Review, will lead a discussion on transforming your critical or creative manuscript into a published work.
Saturday Plenary Session: On Writing
Kate Bernheimer and Rikki Ducornet, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s current and former Writer in Residence, will each give a short reading from their critically-acclaimed novels. After the readings, Bernheimer and Ducornet will lead a discussion on turning points in the process and pedagogy of critical and creative writing.
Conference Night Out
An optional event on Friday night, conference-goers will travel via charter bus to Prejean’s, a local restaurant that is world-renowned for its Cajun cuisine. Live bands perform traditional Cajun music in an atmosphere that showcases the culture of South Louisiana. See the registration page for further details.
