About Milena Theatre Group

The Milena Theatre group was founded by artistic director Dr. Dayana Stetco in 2000. The group combines site specific performance, eastern and western performance styles, film techniques, and art installations, and allows students to collaborate with artists, musicians, architects, sculptors, folklorists, and filmmakers, both inside the university and from the community of Lafayette, Louisiana.

To date, the group has produced 18 original plays.

Work on each production begins with an image, not a text, which is then developed over four to six months of rehearsals, through improvisation and discussion. The final text emerges at the end of the rehearsal process. The group performs one single show, and the opening is also the closing night.

Opportunities for Students

By working with Dr. Stetco to produce a singular performance, students studying drama writing at UL Lafayette have an opportunity to experience theatre from the writing stage right up to the final curtain.  Dr. Stetco teaches drama and playwriting workshops at both the undergraduate and graduate level. These workshops allow both budding and experienced playwrights the opportunity to have their work read and strengthened in a rigorous environment.
