Dr. Chris Healy passed away on August 21st, 2024.

Dr. Healy earned tenure and taught English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for more than twenty years until his retirement last year. He received his Ph.D. from Louisi-ana State University in 2002, with a specialty in Middle English literature, textual schol-arship, and linguistics.

Dr. Healy’s research continued the topic of his dissertation, “The ‘Minor’ Poet and the Major Editor: A Case Study in Canon Construction,” examining the fifteenth-century poet Thomas Hoccleve’s status outside the canon and how the textual tradition of his works has affected the poet’s reputation.

In addition, Dr. Healy examined the ways the autobiographical material in Hoccleve’s poetry has been used to perpetuate the poet’s unfavorable reception. Dr. Healy wrote several contributions to the Chaucer Encyclopedia.
Dr. Healy will be much missed in the English Department. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Hos-pice of Acadiana.
