Faculty members Conni Castille and Charles Richard premiered their documentary film, Ancestral Artistry: The Influence of Africans and Creoles of Color on Louisiana Architecture in Lake Charles, LA, in September 2024.

Other achievements
Dr. Gabriel Houck’s short story “Something You Don’t Believe” was nominated by Driftwood Press for a Pushcart Prize.
Dr. Shelley Ingram was selected by the American Folklore Society Executive Board to be part of a six-person editorial collective to edit the Journal of American Folklore/JAF: A Global Quarterly. The collective assumes leadership in January, 2025.
Dr. Maria Seger received a Louisiana Project Grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and a Rebirth Grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for a total of about $12,000. This is to fund a symposium on Afrofuturism to take place in February.
Dr. Shelli Feist and Dr. Leah Orr both gave plenary talks at international conferences in their fields this semester.
