Sabbatical News
Tue, 11/05/2024 - 11:32amThis fall we have three faculty on sabbatical. Sabbaticals are funded by the university for faculty to spend concentrated time on their research and creative works.
Dr. Henk Rossouw, associate professor of creative writing, is spending part of his sabbatical at the highly-selective Willapa Bay Artist-in-Residency program. Here, he was invited to spend a month writing at their location in Oysterville, Washington, on the Pacific Coast.
Dr. Shelli Feist, professor of linguistics, has also been traveling. In September, she went to Granada, Spain, to participate in the 13th Spanish Cognitive Linguistics Association Annual Conference. Next month, she’ll be travelling to João Pessoa, Brazil, to give a keynote speech at Il Semantics Colloquium: Contemporary Dialogues.
Dr. Randy Gonzales, associate professor of professional writing, has been researching his new book on Filipino American foodways in Louisiana and also promoting his recent book of poetry, Settling St. Malo. His latest public appearance was at the Filipino American International Book Festival in San Francisco, California, earlier in October. He has also given readings and lectures in Houston and Beaumont, Texas, and in Shreveport, Louisiana.
