Midterm activity
Tue, 10/29/2024 - 5:24pmNotes from the Department Head
It’s been a busy fall semester so far! We are now already in the middle of advising stu-dents for the spring semester and preparing our graduating seniors for their commence-ment activities. This semester we have 119 English majors, 64 Moving Image Arts ma-jors, and 94 graduate students. One new initiative begun this fall is the English Ambassador program, where English majors will visit classrooms of 100– and 200-level English classes to share information about the major. We’ll begin class visits in the spring semester. Stay tuned for more details about how to be involved!
This is a busy time of year, but we are planning a steady stream of events and enrichment programs for our current faculty and students, our alumni, and the local community. Thanks to Dr. Lisa Graley for leading the Deep South Writers Series, to Dr. Joel Rhone for chairing the Levy Committee, and to our graduate students for organizing the Thursday Night Reading Series. As we head into midterm and advising season, it can be easy to become overwhelmed. We have several events planned to help current students and faculty enjoy some casual downtime. Join us for the Bad Poetry Night and Costume Party, listen to our students read one evening at TNRS over an inexpensive beverage, or meet us off campus for a Coffee and Chat with the grad students. Check out our calendar for more information about these events!
