Do you find yourself jotting down lines of poetry or sketching out ideas for short stories in the margins of your notebook? Do you wish you could craft the perfect poem for that special someone? Or, are you studying Creative Writing and hoping for some extra feedback on your work?

Ragin’ Writers, an undergraduate creative writing club at UL Lafayette, can help you with all of the above and more. The club aims to provide a creative outlet for students who are interested in writing any kind of creative work, including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, or even fanfiction. As a member of the club, you get the opportunity to participate in creative writing outside of the classroom by collaborating or responding to writing prompts, receiving helpful feedback on works in progress, and help with preparing work for potential publication.

You’ll also get to know the other members of the creative writing community, both on campus and in Lafayette.

Maggie Bradley, current President of Ragin’ Writers and a senior at UL, majoring in French and Creative Writing, shared her love of the club with us.

I got involved as a sophomore. The club was immediately inviting, and just a great group of people who loved to talk about writing. We would just get together, go over a little genre or subgenre, and write. Sharing our writing has always been my favorite part, and hearing what other people have written just always fills my mind with amazement for what other people can create,” Bradley said.

Ragin’ Writers is planning several events throughout the school year. “This year, we held a picnic in the park where we read mystery stories. We are also planning a Scrabble tournament, most likely for Spring semester. We are planning to host reading events for the nursing home and library, as well as slam poetry events,” Bradley said.

Currently, meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in Griffin Room 315. Any current UL undergraduate students may join the club and can start attending meetings at any point during the semester.
